Description Writer has been sick, but has managed to buy his own house in the city. He was able to pay for the house in cash, without borrowing the money. He seems to be prospering, and is now ''getting right fat since the sickness I now weigh 25 lbs. heavier than I did last.'' "...as for your coming out to this country I would say that if ever1you do make up your mind to come, better to do. so before your family separates, for it would be unpleasant for part to come here and part remain there, and in case of your determining to come the best plan would be for you to arrange your affairs so as to come in here in the fall of the season, so that you could proceed out to Ohio or Iowa and have arrangements made in time to put in a crop in Spring. it will take a great deal of money to take your family to where my brother John is nearly double as much as from your place here, and for you to come with the idea of remaining about Phila. I would not advise you to come. but I think if you were out in the country here for a few years that you would be able to live comfortable.'' Andrew's whole family, in Ohio, farhter west, and in Philadelphia, seemed to be prospering. " .... The markets here are very dear all this year ... and I may here remark that this is bad a year for poor as has been here for a number of years and very little prospect of a change for the better yet there are hundreds of strong men willing to work and has not been able to get a days work for the last three months. there is not the half of employment now that has been some time ago, and money is very Scarce, and provisions about as dear again as they used to be So you may judge how the poor get along."
