Reilly Letters
Title
John Reilly, Newark, New Jersey, to his cousin, Patrick Reilly, Ireland, 15 October 1884
Description
Reilly refers to "my factory," and most letters are on stationary headed: "Office of John Reilly & Son, Carriage, Patent and Enameled Leather, Avenue C, Murray and Astor Streets, Newark." John Reilly remarks that trade is dull, and many factories are closed or running half-time. Sends Patrick £6, including £3 from Charlie (perhaps another cousin?). Remarks on family squabbles and estrangements. [From later letters Patrick Reilly appears to be living in Dublin city].

Note
Title and description by Professor Kerby Miller. Professor Kerby Miller notes that: Arnold Schrier collected all five of these John Reilly letters. However, the Reillys who corresponded in 1841 [are] not related to the John and Edward Reilly who corresponded in 1895-1901; also they came from different donors. Manuscript given to Professor Kerby Miller by Professor Arnold Schrier from a private collection.
