Reverend William Stavely Letters
Title
John Bones, Augusta, Georgia, to his uncle, Rev. William J. Stavely, near Ballymoney, County Antrim, 5 April 1815
Description
John Bones had emigrated in 1810 with his parents, James Bones and Mary Adams Bones, formerly of Chequer Hill, Loughguile parish, ancestral home of the Adams family), and with his four siblings, Samuel, Thomas, Elizabeth, and Ann Bones. Reports that in 1813 his uncle William Bones had dissolved his business partnership and made the writer, John Bones, his partner in a new firm, which bought cotton from planters and sold it to English and Northern markets. Bones complains about how few letters he's received from home since his family emigrated. He makes boasting, patriotic remarks about the late war and especially about Jackson's victory at New Orleans. He reports that people in the US South are less open and sociable than those at home. [William J. Stavely lives in Ballyboyland(s), Ballymoney as per his letter of 9 February 1851 in the William Stavely Letters series].
