Anstis-Eady-Huston Letters
Title
James Huston, Ballinadee, County Cork, to his uncle, Robert Eedy, St. Peters, Bay de Chaleur, New Brunswick, 31 December 1828
Description
Huston is again unemployed, but his letter focuses mostly on what he views as apocalyptic political developments: O' Connell's election to Parliament from Co. Clare; the immanence of Catholic Emancipation, the rise of priestly power, the arming of "papists," the rise of Liberal and Brunswick Clubs to confront each other, and the consequent flight of frightened Irish Protestants to North America Not much on the economy or emigration, but lots on politics/religion : 0 'Connel l's Clare election, Catholic emancipation, Protestant fears and opposition, & Protestant millennial cast of mind. Even current events in Russia, Turkey, and Greece fit into Huston's mill ennial expectations.
