McHenry-Moore Letters
Title
Jane Shaw, Ballywillin townland, Raloo parish, Belfast Lower barony, County Antrim, to her brother, Thomas Moore, Baltimore, Maryland, 11 June 1817
Description
The writer appears to be married to Robert Shaw, a merchant or manufacturer. She would like to leave "a poor and distressed country" for "a land of prosperity and peace," but her husband is doing well and content to remain. Mostly family news. Reports that her and Thomas's brother, David Moore, had sailed from Belfast for Baltimore on 21 May; she greatly laments his departure, but hopes that he and Thomas will live near each other. In fact, both David and Thomas would move to South Carolina, where another brother, John, was reportedly doing well.
