Letter from Joe Cleary, New York, to his father, Thomas B. Cleary, Athenry, updating him on political divisions within Clan na nGael in New York, dated 29 July 1920. Describes the Gaelic American newspaper: "it is a fraud but if you could see it for yourself, attacking the president [de Valera], it is scandalous; Ould [John] Devoy and Judge Cohalan are the cause of it all". Mentions that Liam Mellows is in Los Angeles. Mentions Miss Kelly from Loughrea, ‘the only women who kissed de Valera in the USA and I think he does not want another.’
