Description Letter from Thomas B. Cleary, Stafford Prison, to his wife Mary, Athenry, dated 12 June 1916. ‘Tom B.’ writes in the aftermath of his deportation to Stafford prison with his three sons and other Galway rebels. He describes life in Stafford prison and asks about his family’s finances and welfare. "We are very well. Just as well as one could expect under the circumstances. There is very little time for thinking during the day. All bustle... congregation almost as thick as you would see in an ordinary church on Sunday. Every one with his own story. All the newspapers that are in print in England or Ireland. Letters and parcels continuously going and coming. Writing, reading, singing, marching, praying, bathing, sweeping, mopping, card playing, smoking, yarning. Bed at ten. Up at 5.30. Every hour has its excitements and its strict duties."
