S. Griffith Letter
Title
S. Griffith, Philadelphia, to Sarah W. Lamborn, (?), 26 May 1844
Description
[Anti-Irish nativist's letter on the Philadelphia anti-Irish, anti-Catholic riots of 1844]. The author writes in approval that Philadelphia will soon join New York as the only purely American cities in the Union run by native-born citizens, with the growing support for the American Party following the recent riots and "bitter feeling here against the Irish'. They claim that the "Irish" police refused to give testimony or deal with the Irish mob and that no newspaper has yet to provide a "fair and candid" account of what occurred.
