Hugh Brown, Belfast, to brother, James Brown [David's son], 73 Chesnut St., Philadelphia, 29 September 1820
Description
Reports death of their brother, John, in Demarara [Demerara, now part of Guyana in South America]; was buried by the Belfast sugar merchant community there. Painting business was good: "Trade is verry good with us we have several good jobs on hand we have got the Commercial Buildings which is equal to 6 of the largest in Belfast, which is allowed to be the handsomest Building in the 3 kingdoms". [Kerby Miller identifies the recipient of this letter as 'James Brown #2' in a note that reads "last in Belfast; son of David; nephew of Samuel & Thomas; and cousin of the James Brown who has been in Philadelphia since 1810"].
