O'Callaghan Letters
Title
B. Burke, Kells, County Meath to James Smith, Eden National School, Nobber, 9 January 1839
Description
B. Burke writes in distress to his friend James Smith (likely headmaster of Eden National School), of the burning of many houses in Kells, though Burke's was spared being "blown in" through the exertions of his family (as he was in the hospital). He seeks Smith's reply with his own personal news. Burke is likely a doctor as he also appends he must go to an ill friend of Mrs John, who is waiting on him. As the envelope is addressed via Nobber (town) the national school is thus located in Eden townland some miles away. [Note that this Kells incident appears to be conected to the 'Night of the Big Wind', January 6-7, 1839].
