J. Norris/ Greene (?), to his cousin Bridie Norris (Greene by marriage), Ireland, [29 June 1917]
Description
Fr James Norris gives news of school and family to his cousin Bid [Bridie, who is living in The Burgery, Dungarvan as per later letters] and while he begins his letter on 19 June, he resumes on 29 June]. He mentions that the news of the Great War are coloured in newspapers to reflect the Allies's side and thus cover up their mistakes and failures, of which he will not elaborate because of censoring of the mail. He laments the systematic killing of thousands of men in the war and high cost of living, while noting that provinces such as Quebec are strongly against conscription which is being debated in government.
