Photocopied ms., not transcribed; no notes except the following. John's wife, Sarah, has been very ill; spent 17 weeks in bed. Comments on the Franco-Prussian War's negative effects on business; now fears another war with China. John Asten is building a new house at Rockmacreeny. Robert is doing well at Ahory, but John has been urging him to emigrate and take up a farm in America, where he will have no rents or landlords. Benjamin has been ill at Leeds. Wonders if William's son has recovered.
