Williamson Letters
Title
Robert Williamson, Ahory, County Armagh, to his brother, James Williamson, California, 5 January 1854
Description
Photocopied ms., not transcribed; the only notes are these below. Robert appears to be trying to mollify James's wounded feelings, perhaps because of the farmer's failure to send their father's legacy. Reports severe drought and a consequent bad flax harvest. Hugh and Sally were still prospering. William Williamson has not written to Ahory for some time, and Robert fears it's because he and Hugh were unable to meet William's request for a loan of £50. Their mother is worried about James's spiritual welfare in the California gold camps, and urges him, through Robert, to leave that "unsanctified place." More news of neighbors.
