Williamson Letters
Title
Robert Williamson, Ahory, County Armagh, to his brother, James Williamson, Bonus Ravine, Auburn, Sacramento City, California, 27 April 1853
Description
Photocopied ms., not transcribed; the only notes are these below. Robert seems much more pious, and even sanctimonious, than his brothers in California or Manchester. Much moralizing about their father's recent, sudden death. Their father apparently left James a legacy of £20, but Robert's financial burdensrents, etc. - are apparently too great for him to pay it now. Provides much news about kin and/or neighbors, emigrants and returned emigrants. Brother Hugh and his wife, Sally, are prospering at butter-making. Mary Cox (a married sister, I think) has another son. Tom seems to be an estate agent, and is raising rents and getting rich . Benjamin is busy at the "chemical works" - presumably still at Leeds.
