Williamson Letters
Title
James Williamson, San Jose, California, to John Williamson, Manchester, England, 3 October 1858
Description
Describes his recent visits to San Francisco: once to see the exhibits of farm and other machinery at the Mechanics Fair; the second time, with the San Jose fire department, to march in the great celebratory parade in honor of the completion of the Atlantic Telegraph. Brother William is now ranching in the Pajaro Valley, near Watsonville, in Santa Cruz Co. He (James) is tired of working for others in a "shop, and wants to farm or ranch for himself. Has subscribed to Scientific American for brother Robert at home.
