Richard Lalor to his cousin Maria, 29 February 1872
Description
Maria is Maria Dillon O'Brien of Madison as per previous correspondence between these cousins. Richard Lalor referes to the "great wet in this gloomy country" akin to the great cold his couisn had complained of in America. He informs her that John's only daughter, Mary D'Arcy, emigrated with her husband and six children to the United States last October, her husband "having got tired of his place in the Customes & sold it out to the Government for about £1200". He descibes his health as bad but his family are well, as is his brother Peter's family in Melbourne ("the only Lalor I know who has made money"). He concludes by asking for his brother William and hopes he will see him once again in Tinnakill, following his "dreadful accident".
