William Lalor, Syene, Wisconsin, to his brother, Richard Lalor, Tinakill, Queen's County, 28 May 1883
Description
Mostly a letter of introduction. Lalor introduces Dr. Philip Fox, his nephew, who is traveling to London with three friends, and asks Richard, a Member of Parliament, to show them around. Apparently, Lalor maintained better relations with the Fox family than did Maria Dillon O'Brien. Squarely in the anti-clerical Irish republican tradition, Lalor reacts very strongly against the Papal condemnation of the Irish Land War. [The former settlement of Syene is now deserted according to 'HISTORICAL & ARCHITECTURAL RESOURCES SURVEY 2018-2019, Fitchburg (city), Dane County, Wisconsin"].
