George Dillon, Tamales, California, to his cousin, Richard Lalor, Tinakill, Queen's County, 7 June 1868
Description
Dillon pens a very detailed and descriptive autobiographical letter, in response to Richard Lalor, whose letter was the first one that Dillon had ever received from Ireland. He reports that most of his neighbors in Marin County were Irish, but the nearest Catholic chapel was 27 miles distant, and California society was "very rough". Provides much information on prices and wages. States that his brothers in Tennessee had been "rebels," but he was proud to have supported the Union.
