Lalor Letters
Title
William Lalor, Dunn township, Dane Co., Wisconsin, to his brother, Richard Lalor, Tinakill, Queen's County, 4 July 1867
Description
William tells the story of his son's death in the war, age only 19. He has ten living children. He describes the prosperity of his farm; he has 80-100 acres in tillage along. However, he's deeply homesick for Ireland. His children have gone to the July 4th festivities, but he is estranged from the US and takes no interest in American patriotism since "the miserable war," and would rather see an Irish fox hunt, about which he reminisces fondly {thus revealing his family's near-gentry status in Ireland). Asks for news of the Fenians in Ireland; hopes they will succeed.
