Nowlan Letters
Title
John Nowlan, Sr., Newtownbarry, Co. Wexford, to his son, Patrick Nowlan, Nova Scotia 30 September 1847
Description
This is a superb and very sad letter, describing all the horrors of the Famine in County Wexford: high mortality, especially caused by fevers, which locals blame on the corn sent from America; very high numbers of evictions by landlords and of emigrants-many of whom were reported to have died from fever on the voyage. John, Sr., reported that son James was now in Kilkenny and John, Jr., in Dublin; neither was married.
