Robert Love, Petersburg, Virginia, to his father, John Love, Banbridge, County Down, 18 February 1820
Description
Robert seems to be doing well, clerking or shop-managing in the hardware trade, but he reports that business conditions, generally, are very poor: many firms have gone bankrupt. Mentions in some detail the recent, devastating fires in Savannah, Wilmington, and, to a lesser degree, in Petersburg itself. [He also mentions that George Mahood was not affected by "the Plague" in Baltimore city, last season].
