Love Letters
Title
George Mahood, Baltimore, Maryland, to Robert Love, Petersburg, Virginia, 21 January 1820
Description
A very good advice letter from another, earlier emigrant from Banbridge, George Mahood, a merchant or merchant's clerk, who advises Robert about how to adjust to American society. Apparently, Robert had complained of loneliness and alienation among strangers, and Mahood advises him about how and whether to trust them. Mahood also reports his religious conversion in the United States, which has led him to reject his past "sins and follies."
