Robert Love, Petersburg, Virginia, to his parents, Banbridge, County Down, 20 August 1819, [addressed to his father, John Love]
Description
A very detailed and highly literate letter (albeit partly illegible) about Robert Love's departure, transatlantic voyage (as a favored cabin passenger), his landing and reception by family friends in Baltimore and, after further travel, to Petersburg. Reported that business in the US is depressed (probably due to the effects of the financial Panic of 1819), and provides information about wages for various occupations in the US. Robert was oppressed by the warm weather and plagued by insects.
