Bishop Conwell Letters
Title
Henry McKeon, [Harrisburg, Pennsylvania], to John McKeon, c/o Bishop Conwell, Philadelphia, 14 May 1836
Description
Henry McKean [McKeon] appears to be a contractor or a subcontractor on some kind of public works (construction) project, probably a road or a canal. One week earlier, he had to dissolve his partnership with another man, because "the men would not work under him." Writes about another immigrant, Patrick Lafferty, who is "dissipated ." Henry refers to Conwell as "my Revd. Uncle the Bishop as I may Call him." McKean appears to be resident, wherever it is, with his father as well as "Elizabeth, Sarah, [and] Daniel." [Kerby Miller could not identify Henry McKeon's location but his envelope is postmarked "Harrisburg"]
