Alice Walsh, Dungannon, County Tyrone, to her husband, James Walsh, c/o Bishop Conwell, Philadelphia, 22 June 1823
Description
Alice Walsh requests that her husband, from whom she had not heard in almost 7 years, either return home or send for her and their two children to come to Philadelphia, where she has heard he has obtained a "very advantageous" "situation," thanks to Bishop Conwell's recommendations. Surprisingly, his is not a desperate or pathetic letter; Alice Walsh does not complain that she is impoverished because of her husband's long absence. [Alice notes that according to James's sister, Margaret, he was in Philadelphia].
