Title
Letter from Jonathan Smyth, and from Robert Smyth, corner of Nixon Street and Callowhill Street, Philadelphia, to James Smyth and family, Moycraig, County Antrim, 25 February 1846
Description
Jonathan Smyth writes home of his healthy and happy state, they having moved to a new location on the corner of Nixon and Callowhill, opening a tavern and distillery and "doing a first-rate business". His brother Robert adds to the letter that his new business is in a property of his uncle William Smyth and "my tavern sign is the Neptune House". He also states that his house has nineteen rooms with a rent of $265 yearly and he acts as agent for his uncle's seven houses. Robert proudly reports that he "had the joke on all the Irishmen that attempted to get licence for the last 6 years", having secured his within three days due to his recent energetic political campaigning.
