Title
James White to Robert Smyth, Moycraig [his cousin?]. Endorsed, 'to the care of the postman' Moss-side, Parish of Derrykeighan, County Antrim, 10 January 1841
Description
John [and Ann] White writes from Philadelphia to cousin Robert Smyth to give news of family and friends and that he has had steady building work since "you left this". John also includes writes of news of which "no one see this side unless brother Robert" which refers to a contentious rift between Uncle William [Smyth] and himself stating "I durst not go into the store unless your uncle is in: you and I are the worst in the world by the old woman's talk". He claims to have "fought many a battle for you since you left this", including falling out with "our friends" James and Jane Thompson who were telling everyone "that you and [Rachel?] was married". He further asks for Robert to advise if and when he is returning, and that William H. Harrison is now President for four years with a "first rate summer" expected for business by the people. John White also sarcastically reports that Daniel Black "got a first-rate winter's job", being commited to jail until 6 May after "they had a row".
