Daniel T. Shehan, Toronto, Canada to his parents, Ballylongford, Co. Kerry, 10 August [1842 or 1843?]
Description
Shehan relays that he, Margarett and the children are in a good state of health and thankful his father got his previous letter (with money apparently) but sadly notes he will not ever see him again. He describes his difficulty travelling around getting employment while leaving his wife and child with friends. He considered building a shop and small farm but "upper Canada is as bigoted as the black north [of Ireland]". He subsequently did elsewhere and became "a freeholder" with "plenty of work". He encourages his sister Margret to join them even as he could not pay her expenses and that of his child, to travel to them the previous summer.
