Daly/ O'Daly Letter
Title
Hugh Daly, Butte Montana, to Patrick O'Donnell, Newport, Mayo, 28 May 1935
Description
Hugh Daly/ O'Daly writes to Patrick O'Connell (a historian) to thank him for a "beautiful and instructive" letter. Hugh goes on to relay personal and professional news, and generally laments the loss of the Irish language amongst Irish immigrants. He also refers to the ongoing research (and his support) of "Edmond" Daly (Edmund Emmet O'Daly), and references the latter's corresponding with the "Mayo people" including Mrs James Daly of Castlebar, on his behalf. He also mentions two "Gaelic scholars" investigating "badly assorted manuscripts" as well as his own research of notable Daly characters including Joe Daly, I.R.B. organiser and friend of P.J. Sheridan et al.
