Patrick Callaghan, Fort Warren, Boston, Massachusetts, to his sister, Bridget Callaghan, Fallow, Kilmacthomas, Waterford (county), 9 March 1882
Description
Patrick discourages emigration, generally, but especially by young women, because of the adversity, destitution, and vice in U.S. cities. Patrick is trying to send copies of Patrick Ford's radical Irish-American nationalist newspaper, the New York Irish World, home to Ireland, despite British censorship of the mails. Mentions that his uncle in Ireland resisted eviction and was imprisoned for Land League activities.
