Owen O'Callaghan, Philadelphia, to his brother Thomas O'Callaghan, Fallow, Kilmacthomas, Waterford, 8 May [1885]
Description
Owen mentions the response their father has received from the Adjutant General's Office, in Washington, concerning Patrick's death and legacy. Owen mentions that a returned emigrant, Kelly, who had worked in a Philadelphia mill, had gone back to Waterford and mistakenly reported that Owen had suffered sunstroke; this wasn't true, but Owen had had a bout of ague and was now well. He's upset that returned emigrants could spread untrue stories, even innocently, that would alarm his family in Ireland. Mentions numerous kinsmen and -women, and neighbors, at home.
