She sits in the alcove of the hearth, in the left foreground, leaning foreward with a frying pan and a utensil in her hands. Using the utensil, she shifts the food in the pan. A black kettle hangs above the turf fire. A second pan hangs to the right above the fire. The man, Patcheen Faherty, sits on a stool, turned toward Bridget, by the right of the heath. He wears a dark cable knit jumper, dark trousers and a bobble hat. Part of a spinning wheel dominates the right of the photo.
