Title
Photograph of Annie Hernon knitting close to a cottage hearth.
Description
Photograph of an old couple sitting in a cottage, Aran Islands. The woman, Annie Hernon, knitting while sitting close to a cottage hearth. Annie sits on a bench to the right of the hearth, in the centre mid/foreground. By her feet is a small stool with wool on it. Two balls of wool have fallen on the ground. In the right midground a man siting on a bench turns to look out the window behind him. In an alcove on the left, a black kettle hangs above a lit turf fire. A frying pan hangs to the right of the fire while another leans against the wall below it. Two saucepans sit at the edge of the hearth. In the centre background a bobble hat and an oil lamp hang on the wall. The photo is quite dark.
