Vere Foster Letters
Title
John Boyle O'Reilly, Boston, to Vere Foster Esq., [Ireland], 24 May 1872
Description
This letter is especially interesting in view of O'Reilly's later refusal in the early 1880s, when editor of the Boston Pilot, to assist Foster in his appeal for funds for assisted emigration; at that time, he strenuously opposed assisted emigration. [Archivist note: Vere Foster Esq. established the Irish Female Emigration Fund in 1852. This letter transcript includes references to another letter that is not available in full. The incomplete letter is: B.F. Psuulturne, Palace Hotel, Mackinaw City, Missouri, to Vere Foster Esq., 17 December 1882]
