Description Photograph of a young man securing the thatch with thin rope on the roof of a cottage, Inishmore, Aran Islands. The thatcher, in the centre/right background, sits with both feet on a rung of a ladder tied onto the roof. He wears wellington boots, trousers, a jacket and shirt. Another man sits on the very top of the roof, with his back to the camera, in the right background. Part of a chair can be seen, in the left foreground, outside the cottage door. A wall connect to the cottage and the roughness of the gable end suggest that another building was attached on the right.
