He holds what looks like a piece of wood, with a nail in it, in his right hand, which is blurred. He wears a flat cap, suit, shirt, tie and wellington boots. Behind the thatcher's head is the chimney stack. A long rod sticks out of the roof behind him. The thatched roof takes up most of the photo.
