Title
Photograph of Patcheen Faherty telling a story to a group of people.
Description
Photograph of Patcheen Faherty sitting at the side of a cottage hearth telling a story to a group of people, Inishmore, Aran Islands. Patcheen sits at the left, turned right. His right hand is held, closed, in front of his face, casting a shadow on it. Patcheen sits in the alcove containing the fire. The six listeners, one man and four women, included Jean Ritchie, James and Bridget Johnston. They all face Patcheen. Jean Ritchie sits in the right foreground, leaning forward and laughing. On the right a woman, likely Bridget Johnston, sits also laughing. Sit beside her is the only man, likely James Johnston. A black kettle hangs above the turf fire. A frying pan hangs to the right of the fire while another leans against the wall below. In the right background three objects, a hat, an oil lamp and perhaps a bundle of sticks, hang on the wall.
