Madison Letter
Title
James Madison, Union Court House, South Carolina, to Richard Bibb, Fredericksburg, Virginia, 12 October 1803
Description
James Madison writes to Richard Bibb informing him that where he is located, there are few Virginians, being instead mosly made up of "Irish Paddies, Scotch and Dutch and of all the People of my acquaintance the Hypocritically Religious Irish are the best [?]". He proceeds to detail the villanious behaviour of the Irish in business dealings but concludes "let's frait[?] the Paddies as they are not worth talking about". [Letter text incomplete. It is uncertain whether this is an extract from a letter or the only surviving text from the original manuscript.]
