Brown Brothers Letters
Title
James Brown, Philadelphia, to cousin, James Brown [David's son], 18 Mill St., Belfast, 14 November 1817
Description
Like his uncle Thomas, James also complains that his uncles and cousins in Ireland fail to write to him. "Times is verry Brisk here at pressent with the Most of Mecenniks I have more than I can dow I have done about $ 7000 dollars Worth of work this Season at pressent and my uncle is a Good friend to me ... he is in good health and (Fat?) .... " (On reverse side of this letter, James Brown in Belfast noted that Nancy Brown (sister of James Brown of Philadelphia) had sailed for Philadelphia on Feb. 3, 1818, and that their uncle, William Brown, had died.) [Kerby Miller identifies the recipient of this letter as 'James Brown #2' in a note that reads "last in Belfast; son of David; nephew of Samuel & Thomas; and cousin of the James Brown who has been in Philadelphia since 1810"].
