Elenor White, Waterside, Londonderry, to her son John [Pennsylvania/ North Carolina], 19 May 1794
Description
[Kerby Miller note places the recipient location in either Pennsylvania or North Carolina. Letter is not fully legible as damaged]. Author is shocked to receive her son John's letter as she believed he was lost to her for good in America. She had received correspondence from Tom in North Carolina eight years previously and Billy Jack was in"Rusky" (both likely other sons). Elenor relates how she cannot work due to her advanced age and that Hannah has married a "very sober, careful good boy a Weaver" and they have four children, but that the 'continual dearth in this country keeps us all down!". She rebuts his claim that she had forgotten him, writing that he "kept her in sorrow ever since the day you left me" but wishes him and his family well [near Philadelphia?], hoping he can write again with news of his brother "for we expect not".
