J. Norris/Greene(?), St Patrick's School, Quebec, Canada, to his cousin Bridie Norris, (England?), 17 June 1905
Description
Fr James Norris laments he has not had recent correspondence from his cousin Bridie Angela Norris and refers to a former girlfriend Minnie Gough who is left single while he has become a Christian Brother. He relates some home news and reminisces nostalgically of past family occasions, but states that Bridie would have no interest in the geopolitical news from Canada. In a marginal note he claims to have forgotten "all his Irish except the commonplace" and includes some transliterations of stock Irish language sayings including "Cunnes ta tu, Currig urth Pogeu ma hoon, Thurram pogue, Thiggin thu". Her location in England as suggested by Kirby Miller (though not in London where James Norris relates a cousin had died) is confirmed by Norris's later letter of 24 January 1920.
