Smith/ Smyth Letters
Title
William Smyth, Philadelphia, to James Smyth, Moycraig, County Antrim, 31 March 1837
Description
The letter is addressed to James Smyth, but the contents refer to Robert Smyth of whom his uncle William instructs "if you want to come [here] you are old enough. The sooner you come the better". He advises Robert to take the next vessel of James Corscadden leaving from Londonderry as that he has paid Corscadden his passage and a further £2 pocket-money which Robert can collect on presenting the latter with this letter. He asks his nephew to bring some oatmeal and cheese with him and to hasten as he has an employment vacancy open for him. Smyth concludes with that he had to send the letter via Liverpool "as there is no conveyance direct to Ireland".
