Mentions the recent local 4th of July parades and the weather in the U.S. Mentions Land League activities in Ireland, and reports that Irish Americans, himself included, rejoiced at Patrick O'Donnell's assassination of James Carey, the man who informed on the Invincibles (who had murdered Cavendish and Burke in Phoenix Park, Dublin, on 6 May 1882). Mentions that their cousin, Maggie Norris, had also emigrated to Philadelphia.
