Red Book notebook (c.120 pp) kept by [Brendan Duddy], most notably containing notes of July 1981 (35pp) pertaining to an intensive period of discussions about the hungerstrikes: 168 mostly drafts for communications from the [Provisional IRA] on behalf of prisoners negotiating their status, also a briefing from British government side [19 July]; ending on personal note: 'The British are asking for their plan to be accepted. A won't move ... I can't save K.Doherty's life. It is so tragic.' (July 20) Including a note on Joe McDonnell's death which they heard of on the 7am-news (8 July), and mention of Brendan [Duddy jr]'s emergency illness (16-19 July). Connected to this section, enclosing a separate page commenting on the prisoners terminating the protest and to the government's statement of 20 July on the measures to be taken. Also containing various business notes (some dated), lecture notes, short opinion piece on members of religious orders, dated June 1980, other unrelated notes.
