Transcript of interview with Michael Byrne as part of the Tuam Mother and Baby Home Oral History Project. Interview conduced via Zoom online platform by Dr. John Cunningham, NUI Galway. In the interview, Byrne discusses his experiences since his birth in St. Mary's Tuam Mother and Baby Home. Byrne outlines his earliest memories, once transferred as an infant to St. Patricks, Templehill, Dublin. He describes the details of his early childhood years within St. Patrick's, Templehill, his positive experiences within the adoption as a young child there, the details he knows of his adoption and related memories. Byrne also describes a disability regarding his foot and leg, and his medical treatment for this but which he also credits as delaying his adoption. Byrne further describes his life with his adopted parents in Boston as well as links to his Irish identity and culture, which were encouraged within his adopted home. Byrne also outlines his journey in which he sought to discover information regarding his birth family, accessing records in Ireland and supports from fellow survivors of the Tuam Mother and Baby Home.
