Michael Byrne - Oral History Interview
Description
Recording of interview with Michael Byrne, conducted by Dr. John Cunningham (History Department, NUI Galway), as part of the Tuam Mother and Baby Home Oral History Project. The interview was held over the Zoom online platform in April 2021. Byrne was interviewed from his home in the United States of America. Byrne discusses his personal experiences and memories and of his efforts to retrace the story of his childhood. Bynre was born in the Tuam Mother and Baby Home before being transferred as a baby to St. Patrick's Adoption Guild, in Temple Hill, Black Rock, Co. Dublin. He outlines his adoption to a Catholic family in the United States and his experiences growing up in Boston, as well as of later visits to Ireland. Byrne also discusses his efforts to trace his birth mother, Annie Owens, as well as his contacts with Catherine Corless and with fellow survivors of the Tuam Mother and Baby Home.
